1951 1951 The design of this machine is interesting. It chips wood with sets of sharp swinging hammers mounted on a balanced rotor. These hammers strike the garden waste at up to 50,000 times a minute and allow branches to be fed at up to 3m/10 ft per minute. Each hammer can be flipped or reversed in four different ways, quadrupling the useful working life. Because the Briggs engine drives through a centrifugal clutch, it is under no load when starting and will only begin turning the cutters when up to speed. Furthermore, the clutch slips if overloaded. So it should not stall. The rotating parts and the chassis are quite simple and very strongly constructed.
